What is Martial Morality (武德) and How Can You Apply it in Your Training and Life?
While playing any sport, there is good and bad etiquette. Good etiquette would be helping someone up if they fell or shaking hands after a match. Bad etiquette would be the opposite of that such as knocking someone down on purpose or talking trash during a match. Similarly in martial arts, you are expected not to hit your partner as if you wanted to hurt or knock them out. This is considered bad etiquette because it could show that you have a bad temper, care about showing dominance, or have bad blood between you and your partner. To prevent this, you can agree on how hard both of you are going to hit, which is usually 50-70% in order to drill techniques or practice them in a pressure-tested environment. These concepts are practiced today in martial arts to encourage people to have fun learning and help each other on their martial arts journey. These good behaviors that are expected from martial arts practitioners are known as 'martial morality', or wǔ dé (武德) in Chinese, a system of ethics that stems from Chinese martial arts.

Who Are the Monsters of Beowulf?
The Epic of Beowulf Beowulf is an Old English epic poem written by an anonymous Anglo-Saxon poet in England sometime between the 8th and 11th centuries. It tells the story of the Geat hero Beowulf who aids the king of Danes Hrothgar in exterminating Grendel, a monster plaguing the great hall Heorot. Beowulf slays Grendel by ripping off his arm. When Grendel's mother finds out that her son was slain she kills Hrothgar’s closest advisor as revenge. In response, Beowulf travels to her lair and slays her, bringing back Grendel’s head as a trophy. Beowulf is rewarded greatly for his efforts and returns home to Gautland, eventually becoming its king.

The Night Comes for Us (2018) This movie seamlessly blends horror and martial arts elements to create a film that boasts superb fight choreography as well as endless amounts of blood and gore. It stars Indonesian actors: Joe Taslim and Iko Uwais, who are both well-known from the critically acclaimed series The Raid. Joe Taslim plays Ito who betrays his gang to save a little girl. Iko Uwais plays the antagonist of the film, Arian who is tasked with the mission by the gang to kill Ito. Both of these characters used to be friends who joined the gang together to move up in the world. This is a rare occurrence where Iko Uwais plays the villain role and he nails it perfectly.

What is Martial Arts and Why Should You Learn it?
In a world where humans depend on technology to get by in their everyday lives, there is one thing a lot of people start to neglect: their physicality. Although education is strongly encouraged and enforced, it seems that exercising and self-defense is largely up to the individual to pursue. While a healthy mind is important, exercising and training one's own body to defend itself in situations are equally important. And what better way to do that than by practicing martial arts?
