Vegas Is in the Cup! Oh, and So Are the Capitals

How did this happen?!

These are the two teams the league (or most of it, at least) did not think were going to make it to the finals this season when the playoffs started. A lot happened in ways that helped Vegas make it and helped Washington. In many ways teams that were in the playoffs, schedules and even fans were just some of the things that aided the teams in getting this far.

We all know that a playoff bracket is supposed to have the best teams from the season that just ended. This year something weird happened. Big teams like the Chicago Blackhawks had terrible seasons and for whatever reason they just plummeted and collapsed. Whether that was due to pressure or injury I don't know; however, I do know that what transpired this season was nothing short of a fluke. Even the Edmonton Oilers, my pick for the cup, did terrible. They were 6th in the division and they didn't even get above .500 avg in their season record. They should have done really well but for some reason they didnt, they have the greatest active player right now in Connor McDavid, and an incredible defense. This should have been their season.

Another thing that helped was schedules. The Capitals had a very easy season schedule. They played easy teams and quite often did really well. But it is not like the Knights had any easier of a schedule. They played the Hawks and won, they played Columbus… and won! This was an easy schedule for these teams and so that really played in their favor cause the big bad boys of the league were over somewhere else knocking each other out of playoff spots. And thus these two teams where at an advantage and a tiered playoff series was going to be made with Washington and Vegas as two wide awake, and energy blasting teams in contention for this coveted Stanley Cup.

The bigger of the three things, believe it or not, was the massive fan support that Vagas got, and the major fan support that Washington got as well. Home ice is huge in hockey just as home field in baseball or football is. However, with these two teams, it was like the fan base just followed the teams wherever they went and they wouldn’t be caught dead without a loyal fan base that supported them this year. For Vegas and Washington, every place they went was home ice for them and it really showed what transpired this year.

This Cup finals is really something to behold. If you need to know where to find it you can view the Games on TV here:
