Somers Takes the Heat in 42-13 Victory over Clarkstown South
On Friday September 8, Somers began their home schedule and trailed Clarkstown South 6-0 with six minutes left in the half. An unexpected place for the state champs, events conspired to merit the slow start. “We had a tough practice week with the heat. We were out of our routine,” said Coach Anthony DeMatteo. “We’re a very structured program and we do things to the minute. So we were a little out of sorts - especially coming off a tough game last week.” But with a bang, the trunks got into the swing, and sanity ultimately came back to the Somers universe.

After beating Harrison 7-2 on Thursday October 26, Somers earned a berth in the Class AA finals versus Horace Greeley on Saturday. At Nyack High School, the undefeated, number one seed crossed the bridge and faced the possibility that they could lose some of the intensity to the traffic. The same went for a previous game that went into double overtime. No way, the girls had put in too much work to be distracted and simply stayed present, according to Julia Arbelaez.

Never thought I'd see a season end within the first few minutes of the game. The Division Finals kicked off with the Toronto Argonauts hosting the Montréal Alouettes back East, and for the Argos, the opening drive was moving very smoothly. Everything was going right. It was going to be smooth sailing for the Boatmen.

The internet will tell you Barry Bonds retired in 2007, when he last played a game. But there was that moment in 2008 when he proclaimed to the baseball world, “I’m not retired”. Unfortunately for Bonds, baseball had already determined otherwise. A classic example of the game being done with you before you are done with the game. Something we see often, most notably the black quarterback. It seems we only hear about black quarterbacks retiring years after the phone stops ringing. Similar to the line from the old G.I. Joe cartoon I watched as a kid, they don’t retire, they just fade away. See Kordell Stewart, whose retirement came seven years after his final game. See Aaron Brooks, Michael Vick, Daunte Culpepper, Byron Leftwich, David Garrard, and even Colin Kaepernick. How is it that the same athletes that changed the way the position has been played and added so much entertainment value to the sport always seem to have their careers end so quietly and uneventful?

10. Dolphins (6-3) I like the Dolphins. I have always believed in Tua. I believe in the coach, and everyone believes in these weapons. BUT I have to keep it real and be objective. The Dolphins haven't won the big games, and until they prove they can do it, I won't rank them like they have. Also, a lot of the teams ahead of the Dolphins have proven they can play physically, and the Dolphins haven't.

The look on Josh Allen's face says it all. The Buffalo Bills returned home to face the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football, and they were looking to make up for their Sunday Night Football loss to the Cincinnati Bengals a week prior. The opportunity was there. The Miami Dolphins were on a bye, the New York Jets and the New England Patriots both lost, so they could really pick up a lot. The Broncos entered as winners of two of their last three, but with the Bills having home field, they definitely had the golden opportunity.

10. Dolphins (6-3) The Dolphins had a really disappointing game against the Chiefs. Tyreek talked a lot of crap, and the Dolphins couldn't back any of it up. The Dolphins showed they were resilient in the second half but didn't finish the job. Right now, it looks like the Dolphins don't have that dawg in them. They have lost all their biggest games and aren't physical enough. I'm downgrading the Dolphins until they prove they can win a big game against one of the top teams in the NFL.

This season has gone by so, so fast! It seems like yesterday that I was counting down the days until the 2023 CFL season started, especially since the Toronto Argonauts would be the defending champions. Now, here it is, November has arrived, and it's playoff time in Canada! This time, however, the games are on Saturdays now. I guess the CFL finally decided that they didn't want to clash with the NFL, at least for the first two rounds anyway.

NFL Week 9 Recap: Nine Months
January 2, 2023. We all remember that Monday evening. The Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals faced each other in what was the final Monday night game of the season. Regarding the game and the storyline, it was two teams jockeying for position in the AFC, as they were both in position to possibly take the AFC's #1 seed. This was an important game for both teams, but before the 1st quarter ended, there was suddenly something much, much more important than the game of football.

10. Cowboys (5-2) The Cowboys are coming off two great victories, and it looks like they are going in the right direction. The big test now is whether Dallas can take this level of play to the elite teams. But despite their resurgence, they still have a really bad loss to the 49ers, so they remain under them.
