Argentina vs Ecuador
The air was electric in the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires on that fateful Thursday night. The stadium, with its iconic circular architecture, seemed to reverberate with the passionate anticipation of the Argentine fans who had gathered to witness a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Ecuador. It was a match that had the potential to determine Argentina's fate in the tournament, and all eyes were on one man - Lionel Messi.

I do enjoy the Labour Day Weekend games in the Canadian Football League, but this one was extra special, because both Labour Day Monday games actually aired on American television, on the CBS Sports Network. Before Week 13 kicked off on Saturday, the CFL announced its first clinching scenario: the Winnipeg Blue Bombers could get in with a win. Simple as that. Of course, this was the weekend of the rivalry matchups, and in the case of the Blue Bombers, they faced off against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Regina on Sunday.

On Thursday July 27, the Westchester Female Flag Football League got together for another night of gridiron games, and the Foxy Mama’s were there again to represent for Katonah/Lewisboro. Proud in Purple, the contingent of Cross River area Moms faced the Bees Knees of Somers. But Whitney Hartmann was not charmed by her opponents for very long and set the tone on the second play from scrimmage.

It happened. It finally happened. The Edmonton Elks won a home game in the 2020s. Week 12 of the 2023 CFL season ended with the Edmonton Elks hosting the lowly Ottawa Redblacks, who entered the week in the bottom of the East Division. The Elks were coming off finally getting their first win of the season against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, but that was in Hamilton. There was one thing they had to take care of still: winning a home game for the first time in this decade. They actually trailed after the first quarter, but the good news, it was only 1-0. The Elks found the end zone in the second quarter, and after that, they never looked back. Edmonton racked up the points while all Ottawa could muster was two field goals and a second rouge. The offense did wake up a bit late in the game, but it was too little, too late for the Redblacks.

I lay on the ground flat on my back after the hit. I could literally feel the pain shoot down from my chest right out my butt; it was like I was trying to pass a knife through my digestive tract. It was, without a doubt, the most painful thing I had ever experienced.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Edmonton Elks have won a game in 2023! The Elks' season is pretty much over; they entered Hamilton having already lost the entire first half of their games. The team was coming off a huge disappointment in Week 10, going from being on the verge of pulling off a massive upset against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, to blowing a sure thing and increasing their home losing streak. Regarding their meeting with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, the Elks started with a good-sized lead. It wasn't 22 points, but still, it was a good lead for them.
