Welcome NBA fans!

It is not even July yet and there have been tons of moves happening as of late. The latest saga involves Kevin Durant either getting a max offer from the Warriors or leaving them for good. In Klay Thompson’s case, he is counting the days until free agency begins to get a max offer from his franchise.

We know that Klay was expected to resign with the team during the season. Furthermore, he has stated several times that he intends to stay with the Bay Area and be a “warrior for life.” What made Klay’s loyalty to the team evident is having a torn ACL injury, which should be a lock for him to stay with the Warriors.

We all know that Thompson, when healthy, is an elite shooter and max-level player. Klay should be the Warriors number one priority at the first day of free agency. If the franchise decides to offer him the five-year max deal at 6:01PM, Thompson will be a warrior for life.

If the Warriors offer another discount again (I doubt it), Klay will consider leaving for the Clippers. It will be difficult to keep everyone while paying the luxury tax come next season.

Adrian Wojnarowski report that Klay Thompson is "very open" to sitting down with the Clippers.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, it appears that a few teams are willing to pay Klay Thompson the full max deal if the Warriors don’t offer the max to him.

Here is Woj’s comment about this issue:

“The one team that I think—my information is—he would be very open to going down to sit down with are the Clippers. And if they have a chance to sell Kawhi Leonard with Klay Thompson, certainly that’s an appealing sell for any free agent.”

Klay Thompson should be Warriors' #1 top priority.

If I were the Warriors, I would think twice of letting Thompson leave without offering the max deal on the table. There has been promises in the past when it comes to making Klay a top priority, and locking him up in a long-term deal. However, there were times where these promises end up a complete 360, which means they would offer discounts to sustain their dynasty.

This time around, Thompson is not playing around. He has worked hard for his money and deserves the full max, no discounts attached. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Warriors end up losing both Klay and Kevin Durant in free agency.

As a result, the franchise will crumble for a long time, even with both Stephen Curry and Draymond Green on the team. In order to keep their championship hopes alive, the Warriors have to keep Klay happy and offer the max to him on June 30th.

Will both Klay Thompson & Kevin Durant walk away?

At this moment, time is ticking on the Warriors’ front office to deliver big on opening night and secure Klay Thompson. Then if Kevin Durant decides to leave, at least they will have their original core from post-Durant to help contend for years to come. It's a huge possibility that Thompson stays with the Warriors and Durant leaves for Brooklyn.

Honestly, I don’t believe in these rumors. I don’t think Klay will leave the only team that drafted him. He is too good of a shooter to leave a positive environment in the prime of his career.

Overall, it is Klay’s decision on where he should go. Sometimes, these rumors are misleading and can cause confusion during this time of year. In this case, there is no doubt that Klay Thompson will be a warrior when the paper is inked on June 30th.

As a reminder, there will be suitors for Thompson to explore if he so chooses. We can all debate on which team he should go next, but only he knows what he wants. What Klay wants is to get a huge pay raise from the front office, so he doesn’t have to worry about it.

Shooters gets paid.
