The Pittsburgh Steelers have been a team that has been under the microscope during the 2018 season. After an ongoing contract battle with their former starting running back, Le'Veon Bell, the Steelers locker room began to crumble into pieces. For the first time in years, members of the media were able to walk out of the Heinz field locker room with quotes full of emotions and opinions that were voiced about the team’s current condition. Head Coach Mike Tomlin was put in a temporary hot seat multiples times throughout the season due to the way the team was conducting themselves before the first game even begun. After their week one tie with the Cleveland Browns was etched into the stat books, football enthusiast across the league immediately picked up on the problems brewing in the steel city.

It was not a big surprise to see the Pittsburgh Steelers missed the playoff action at the end of the 2018 season. It was clear throughout the season that the Steeler's identity was unclear. Although their star wide-receiver Antonio Brown finished the season ranked first in touchdown receptions, it was as if he was non-existent in some points of the season. His 1,297 receiving yards placed him at eleventh in the league and his 104 receptions were the ninth best in the league for the year. His teammate, JuJu Smith-Schuster, finished sixth in receptions and fifth in reception yards. While some fans question who the number one receiver was really, Brown is quite sure that his days of playing in the black and gold are over.

Juju Smith-Schuster has been an unsung hero for a Pittsburgh squad who have been accustomed to having a squad of elite wide receivers. Since the retirement of Hines Ward, the Steelers have been fortunate enough to continuously be blessed with stars to replace the last. Santonio Holmes also is known for his years wearing the gold and black uniform. Since then, stars such as Emmanuel Sanders and JuJu Smith Schuster have been able to fulfill the strong legacy of Pittsburgh receiving.

Some fans around the league believe it is time for the Steelers to revamp their roster. After the long drawn out hold out by their star running back Le'Veon Bell, the Steelers slowly became an NFL team that began to dwindle in performance. Many analysts remember when the organization was contemplating their decision to keep their quarterback Ben Roethlisberger after his motorcycle incident a couple of seasons ago. With the defensive needs known by the public, the Steelers must choose what their off-season will center around.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have grown into a team that is used to showcasing a high potent offense. The defense usually cleans up the very few mistakes the stealers make when they control the time of possession. With both positions on the team in question, some fans are wondering what is next for the Steelers.

Antonio Brown tweeted his goodbyes to the Steeler Nation before requesting the organization for a trade on Tuesday. The trade request is one that could have been forecasted based on the relationship with Brown and the Steelers throughout the span of the last year. Brown stated that he is appreciative of his nine years in the Pittsburgh but now it is time to move forward. The Steelers hope to receive a first-round pick in return for Antonio Brown, who has been recruited on Twitter by players such as Jalen Ramsey and Patrick Peterson. Where ever Brown decides to play, it is certain that the Steelers will have to move on as well to prepare for a better 2019 season.
